Are there health benefits to starting over? In my experience, and according to my therapist, absolutely. We live in a time when #productivity culture likes to espouse the benefits of constant progress or continually working on something, but there are times being a beginner can provide an even more valuable lesson in confidence and self-worth. If the idea of starting over terrifies you, though... well, you're in luck. This month at Greatist, we're talking about why starting over isn't scary and we can let this momentum add value to our overall well-being instead. In fact, there are times our lives demand us to reset and start over. Maybe you have to move cities (during COVID-19, no less) or you've finally caught a break from nonstop anxiety attacks (yes, me). Now you're ready to rebuild healthier relationships or get plugged back into the world. Or maybe you need to stop dreaming about the fantasy of a simple life and wake up to the life you have now. No matter if the restart is forced or self-induced, recognizing the process as an opportunity to become more experienced with knowing yourself could be a game-changer in coping during these uncertain times. Or maybe you're all set and just want to find more ways to have brain breaks in your daily routine. If that's you, check out the first entry of Ready, Rest, Reset, our new series about how very online folks make space for rest throughout their days. — Christal Yuen, Senior Editor |
