Morning Routine: How The Everygirl's Wellness Editor Starts Her Day

Josie Santi: Wellness Editor & Certified Holistic Health Coach
6:05-6:20 AM: Alarm goes off (I use the SleepCycle app so it wakes me up when I'm in my lightest REM cycle during this 15-minute period). I snuggle with my dog for a minute, repeat an intention to myself or a couple things I'm grateful for, and then get up and open the blinds right away to expose myself to light to help me wake up.

6:25 AM: Brush my teeth, tongue scrape, and do skincare. I only use face wash at night to not dry out my skin, so in the morning, I wipe my face with a cold washcloth to lightly exfoliate and take off products from the night before. Then, I top with a toner, serums, moisturizer with SPF, and pat on a light oil for extra moisture.

6:45 AM: I am embarrassed to say it, but I do check my phone this early in the morning. I try not to go on any social media, but quickly check my texts and Slack.

6:50 AM: I fill up a water bottle (usually with lemon and/or chlorophyll drops) to start hydrating while I take my dog out. I listen to a wellness-related podcast or guided meditation while we go on a short walk.

7:10 AM: Make a green juice or green smoothie. If I'm not hungry, I'll make a celery juice to sip on. If I'm already hungry, I'll make a smoothie with mango or berries, leafy greens, cucumber, and celery to tide me over until breakfast.

7:15 AM: Journaling! Some days I gratitude journal or brain dump if I'm worried/anxious about something, but lately I've also been loving "future-you" journaling, where you journal about what you want to accomplish as if you've already accomplished it (so envisioning something you want as if you already have it and using present tense instead of future tense). It is SO powerful.

7:30 AM: My workday begins! I start with answering Slack messages and emails and reading stories that went up on The Everygirl that day before writing out my to-do list and daily schedule.

9:00 AM: At the risk of sounding dramatic, this is truly the best part of my day. I take a break to make a delicious, frothy, indulgent matcha latte and it's what literally makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning. For years, I've used the Sun Goddess Matcha from Pique because it is the tastiest, highest quality, and healthiest I've found. Not only does the Sun Goddess Matcha not make you jittery or caffeine crash, but it has a ton of benefits like (just to name a few):
  • Supports healthy immune function because of amino acids and antioxidants
  • Helps clear skin and boost glow, thanks to its rich chlorophyll content
  • Can improve brain function and provide long-lasting, steady energy
  • Shaded for 35% longer for more clorophyll and l-theanine, which can help promote calm and reduce stress and anxiety
  • Helps support healthy digestion and gut health
No joke, Pique has been my matcha brand of choice (and the brand I always recommend to everyone!) because it's organic and Quadruple Toxin Screened, which means you know it's only the cleanest good stuff. Since the quality is better, that means the nutrients are better, which means the results are even more drastic (seriously). For a limited time, get up to 20% off and free shipping on Pique's Sun Goddess Matcha bundles (discount already applied!).

10:00 AM: Whenever I start feeling hungry (sometimes it's a lot earlier, sometimes it's a lot later), I'll make a quick breakfast. This usually looks like chia seed pudding I made the night before, oatmeal with superfoods like goji berries and cacao nibs, or coconut yogurt and lots of berries.
