The West Coast is on fire. According to The New York Times, "Nearly 2.3 million acres of land have burned in California this year — or about 20 times what had burned at this time last year — and there have been 2,650 more fires than at this point in 2019."
The fires are significantly worse this year than in previous years and climate change experts warn that the link between human-caused climate change and larger fires is inextricable.
In California, Oregon, and Washington, the skies are orange and hazy with ash. Forced evacuations have happened for several counties affected and hundreds of homes have been destroyed.
