Click here QUICK UPDATE HEREIt's possible Bluetooth headphones could cause cancer, but this is not new news, guysNews circulated this week about a paper signed by 200 scientists from around the world warning about the potential health risk posed by AirPods and other wireless headphones. Wow. Would be scary news, except it's not entirely true. First, the paper was actually released in 2015 and isn't specifically about AirPods—it warned about the dangers of all tech that uses a "non-ionizing electromagnetic field," which includes cell phones and Bluetooth devices but also microwaves and radios. The paper is back in the news because it was cited by a Medium post last week, and that post quoted one expert who specifically raised concern about AirPods since they sit so close to the brain. So, no, 200 doctors are not ganging up against AirPods, even though that's what some articles are making it sound like. OK, but is there actually a risk? There's no clear answer yet. One famous lab study found some evidence that cell phones could cause cancer in rats, but it wasn't fully conclusive. It was also far from a human study—it's hard to replicate cell phone use in rodents since you can't exactly give them tiny iPhones to carry around in their pockets or plug in next to their beds. But since we don't have a definite no or yes to the question of risk, some experts recommend taking small steps, like sleeping with your phone away from your head and taking phone calls on wired headsets, to be safe. We can probably expect a formal recommendation with similar tips from the FDA sometime in the next few years, but for now, we still don't know. (Quartz)
Try thisPhones down, everyone. This morning routine is a game changer. Instead of blindly reaching for your phone right after waking up, grab a journal instead. (Also, get a journal.) Take five minutes to write down three things you're grateful for, three things that would make today awesome, and two positive affirmations.
