| No Images? Click here So everyone is obsessed with celery juice latelyAnd naturally, that begs the question: WHY?? Some people will tell you it's changed their lives—it's healed their eczema, psoriasis, and acne. It reduces bloating, fights autoimmune disease and acid reflux, helps with weight loss, and eradicates bacteria and viruses. It provides some tight #wellness #content for your Instagram page. It is, according to these evangelists, basically magic. OKKKK, but is it actually?Of course not! Come on. Most actual doctors agree that there's really no basis to these claims at all. Celery does have a lot of vitamin K and a little vitamin C, vitamin A, and folate, plus some helpful antioxidants and flavonoids. But it doesn't have extraordinary amounts of anything, and it's pretty low in many of the nutrients and minerals you really want from vegetables, like fiber, magnesium, and calcium. Celery is by no means unhealthy, but there's really no evidence to support the idea that celery alone will instantly transform your body into a glowing mecca of health and wellness. And also, there's not really any benefit to juicing it over just... eating stalks of celery, other than the fact that you can consume more in one sitting. But that doesn't mean everyone who loves it is lying and it will never work for youThe placebo effect is real and powerful. If you think celery juice has all these magical powers, you might see a real, physical effect on your body—which explains why all the before and after pictures on Instagram are so convincing. Plus, there's really no downside to trying it. It's not like it's particularly expensive, and it's not bad for you. Just... don't expect much.
