| So we can all agree that 2016 wasn’t the best year ever—and that’s probably an understatement. But when it comes to health and fitness, there were plenty of bright spots worth celebrating. For starters, the body-positivity movement finally went mainstream: Plus-size model Ashley Graham landed the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue, and Iskra Lawrence skyrocketed to fame thanks to her refusal to be Photoshopped. Even more established celebrities, like Serena Williams and Amy Schumer, got in on the action by boldly calling out body shamers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We also saw trainers go viral on Instagram; the Final Five tumble their way into American hearts (and history); and the rise of Whole30, a wildly popular diet that focuses on eating real food.
